Investment casting is a manufacturing process in which a wax pattern is used to shape a disposable ceramic mold. Then this is usually cast with molten metal, such as carbon steel castings, alloy steel castings and stainless steel castings.  This process can also be referred to as “precision casting” or “lost wax casting”.

1. The first step in the Steel Investment Casting Process is to produce a wax replica of the desired part. This is accomplished by injecting wax into an aluminum die cavity.

Wax Pattern tooling is necessary for all investment castings. The tool is made from high grade aluminum, and designed to accept the flow of molten wax under extreme pressure, in order to allow it to solidify into the wax pattern which is used to form the ceramic mold during the investing process. Unlike sand casting, lost wax tooling replicates the final casting in reverse, due to the fact that we cut “cavities” in which the wax flows to form our patterns.

The basic technique of investment casting, under its popular name ‘lost wax casting’ has a history of use in the world reaching back to centuries ago. It is one of the oldest known metal shaping methods.

Because of the nature of work and environment, metal casting industry is often pressurized for polluting the environment. Some of the environmental issues associated with the industry are – emission of harmful and poisonous gases, dust and particles and generation of waste pollutants.

Investment Casting also called as Precision Casting refers to the use of fusible materials made of fusible model in some special refractory coating layer on the coating, after drying and hardening to form a whole shell, and then steam or hot water from the shell in the melt model, then put the shell into the sand box, dry sand filling in the other around, finally casting into the baking furnace after calcinations, cast or shell after roasting, the pouring of molten metal and casting.
